PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing an image formation based on the environmental determination high in precision by a temperature correction according to the temperature of outside air even when the erroneous detection of an environment detection sensor arises due to temperature rising in the apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 101 includes: a voltage application means for applying a voltage to a transfer roller 205; a current detecting means for detecting a current flowing in the transfer roller 205; an environmental detection sensor 216 for detecting an environment temperature; a conveying path for conveying a recording medium to a transfer nip; and a CPU 201 for controlling image formation. The image forming apparatus calculates an amount C of correction to the environment temperature (S208) from a difference between a current value A (S203) detected by the current detecting means when the leading end of a recording medium reaches a transfer nip and a current value B (S205) detected by the current detecting means when the trailing end of the recording medium reaches the transfer nip. Then, the environment temperature detected by the environment detection sensor 216 is corrected by the amount C of correction (S209).
