The invention relates to a test of the overspeed protection chain that includes: (a) after an order for starting the turbine engine, sending from the electronic regulation system (SER) of the turbine engine to the control circuit of a fuel cutoff member (OCC) an order for closing or maintaining in the closed position the fuel cutoff member (OCC); (b) checking the closing state of the OCC from information transmitted to the SER and representative of the position of the OCC; (c) if the result of the check of step (b) is positive, sending an order from the SER to the OCC control circuit for authorizing the opening of the OCC and maintaining the start procedure; and (d) if the result of the check of step (c) is negative, transmitting from the SER an information on the defect of the overspeed protection chain.
