PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing methane, by which carbon dioxide, one of greenhouse effect gases, can be used to produce the methane useful as a fuel gas in one process. SOLUTION: The method for producing methane is characterized by reacting a metal hydride with carbon dioxide to produce methane. Thus, by the reaction of the metal hydride with the carbon dioxide, methane can be produced in one process. Methane useful as a fuel gas can be produced, and the reduction of the carbon dioxide causing global warming can be achieved, because carbon dioxide is used as a raw material.
