<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable uniform application of a liquid to a medium even when the liquid adheres to the peripheral surface of a coating roller and solidifies. <P>SOLUTION: A part of a contact member 2007 located downstream is separated from the coating roller 1001, and the coating roller 1001 is rotated in the second direction opposite to the first direction. The liquid is drawn from a liquid retention space S onto the coating roller 1001.
