PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlled and/or regulated force-measuring device, particularly a balance. SOLUTION: This force-measuring device includes an electric coil (53) that is arranged so as to be movable in a magnet system (50) and has at least two windings (W1 and W2). Partial current sources (PB1 and PB2) of a current supply device (PB) is assigned to the respective windings (W1 and W2), and the current supply to the windings (W1 and W2) is controlled and/or regulated. The method of performing control and/or regulation has a device (CU) for control and/or regulation as a method where the sum of at least two electromagnetic forces generated by currents (I1 and I2), dependent on a force (L) acting on the force-measuring device forms the compensation force, while, at the same time, the power dissipated by the coil always takes on a given predetermined value (Ptg) and a method where the currents (I1 and I2) are sent through the respective windings (W1 and W2).
