PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speech synthesizer for effectively transmitting an intention in communication, and also to provide an F<SB>0</SB>contour generating apparatus for the same. SOLUTION: The F<SB>0</SB>generating apparatus 84 includes: a baseline F<SB>0</SB>outline estimator 94 for generating a baseline F<SB>0</SB>contour 96: a pattern generator 110 for generating an F<SB>0</SB>contour pattern signal expressing a target intent; and a projecting module 98 and combining module 114 for reconstructing the baseline F<SB>0</SB>contour 96 so that the reconstructed F<SB>0</SB>contour signal f<SB>0</SB>86 is modulated by the F<SB>0</SB>contour pattern signal Z(t). The projecting module 98 projects the baseline F<SB>0</SB>contour signal 96 onto the base space by using a structure preserving map in a phase space. The combining module 114 fuses the projected F<SB>0</SB>contour signal 100 and an F<SB>0</SB>contour pattern signal 112 by using a homeomorphism defined in the phase space, and generates the reconstructed F<SB>0</SB>contour in a configuration space.
