PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damper drive mechanism of an air conditioner for a vehicle with a simple and compact constitution capable of absorbing backlash and rattling caused by the constitution of the damper drive mechanism and accurately positioning the damper, and an air conditioner for a vehicle using the same mechanism. SOLUTION: The damper drive mechanism 20 of the air conditioner 1 for the vehicle in which the rotatably supported damper 7 is made drivable through an actuator 22 provided on a position spaced from a rotation shaft 7B includes: a driven side pinion 21 provided on the rotation shaft 7B; a drive side pinion 23 provided on an output shaft 22A of the actuator 22; and a rack 24 laid so as to be engaged with the driven side pinion 21 and the drive side pinion 23.
