PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate an intuitive operation of a switch device by overcoming the problem in which, if a defective switch function is assigned to another switch, its operation becomes complicated because the defective switch function is added to an intrinsic function, and is assigned to the other switch at a different position which is not related to the defective switch, resulting in difficulty in the intuitive operation. SOLUTION: A plurality of operation units A-F are arrayed wherein one of a plurality of different functions is assigned and selected for luminous display. The switch device includes a control unit (150) equipped with a defective operation unit detection means which detects a defective operation disabling the selection of an assigned function even if it is operated, and an operation unit operation mode changing means which changes an operation mode when the defective operation unit is detected by the detective operation unit detection means, from a first operation mode which displays an assigned function in luminous manner to a second operation mode which can select the function assigned to the defective operation mode by sequentially switching to the function of an adjoining operation unit every time an operation unit other than the defective operation unit is operated, so that the operation unit to which the switched function is assigned sequentially appears in luminous manner.
