PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve train control device, reducing the maximum output torque of a motor and holding down power consumption by controlling the drive of the motor in consideration of the transmission efficiency of a gear mechanism provided between a control shaft and a motor of a valve train. SOLUTION: In performing pre-starting lift control, a control-shaft-angle command value CSACMD is set to a predetermined command value CSABS (S14), and the target rotating speed NMOBJ of the motor is set to a pre-starting lift target rotating speed NMBSLFT which makes the gear efficiencyηG of a gear mechanism comparatively higher (S18). The drive of the motor is controlled to keep the motor rotating speed NM to the target rotating speed NMOBJ until the control shaft angle CSA substantially matches the control-shaft-angle command value CSACMD.
