PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator that has a simple configuration and speedily corrects the position of a light source section. SOLUTION: The illuminator includes: the light source section 4 that emits illumination light for illuminating a subject and is movable in a primary direction including at least two reference positions HP<SB>1</SB>, HP<SB>2</SB>; and a correcting section 8 that corrects the position of the light source section 4 based on one of at least two reference positions HP<SB>1</SB>, HP<SB>2</SB>.
