The device (38) has an elastic length-variable spring element i.e. coil spring, connected with a guide ring (44) and experiencing an elastic length change during relative motion of protection-encased cable strands (36). An elastic resetting element is arranged between the ring and a fixed connection with a protective mantle of the strands such that the resetting element achieves increased traction force with increasing deflection of the strands with respect to an output position, where resetting force that pushes back the cable strands to a starting position results from the traction force.
