In a steering device with derivative action time or hold time for motor vehicles, a steering movement portion is positively or negatively superimposed on the steering movement which is transmitted to a steering gear as a function of the rotation angle of a steering wheel, which steering movement portion depends on the respective angular speed of the steering wheel. A shaft end (1) which is connected to the steering wheel is arranged coaxially but rotatably with respect to a shaft end (3) which is connected to the steering gear. The two shaft ends (1, 3) each bear a wheel (4 and 5, respectively) with different steep-lead-angle threads (6, 7). The two steep-lead-angle threads (6, 7) engage with a coupling sleeve (8) which is axially displaceable by an actuation piston (26, 26') in order to bring about a relative rotation between the wheels (4, 5) which is superimposed on the steering movement. The actuation piston (26, 26') is controlled by a hydraulic control valve which is acted on by hydraulic pressures which are supplied by a gear wheel pump (13) which is connected to the steering wheel. The said hydraulic pressures correspond to the angular speed of the steering wheel. The actuation piston (26, 26') can be arranged in the control valve or concentrically surround the coupling sleeve (8). <IMAGE>
