<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain luminous intensity unevenness caused by an arrangement interval of LEDs in a backlight device, having a plurality of LEDs which emit light to an end face of a light guide plate. <P>SOLUTION: The LEDs 38, disposed at a first arrangement interval P1, are arranged on a LED unit 34 in the backlight device 20. The LED unit 34 is mounted on a flexible board 32 at a second arrangement interval P2. The light guide plate 22 is arranged so as to make the end face 22a separate from the LEDs 38 at an interval H, in order to satisfy the relations; (first arrangement interval P1)≤(interval H)≤(second arrangement interval P2). Specifically, the plurality of LEDs 38 are arranged side by side, in a manner such that the first arrangement interval P1 is 0.1-3 mm and the second arrangement interval P2 is 5-15 mm.
