Disclosed is a composition for topical administration which comprises on a weight to volume basis: - about 5-25% metaflumizone - about 0-15% dimethyl sulfoxide - about 2-15% of an alcohol alkoxylate surfactant or nonylphenol ethoxylate surfactant or polyoxyl 35 castor oil and - about 50-80% of a non-hydroxyl-group-containing carrier solvent such as gamma-hexylactone or 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate used for the protection from ectoparasitic infestation in cows, sheep, horses, camels, deer, swine, goats, dogs and cats.
