<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel control device capable of appropriately performing the travel control in regard to a lateral motion of a vehicle in response to the state of a preceding vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A steering control device 1 calculates a controlling amount of steering control at ECU7 in response to information about the preceding vehicle and performs a steering control with the calculated controlling amount. Further, the steering control device 1 detects an inter-vehicle distance of the preceding vehicle in regard to the vehicle C through a milliwave radar 6 and a gain value of desired control amount for the steering control is changed at the ECU7 in response to the detected inter-vehicle distance.
