PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for providing surgical access into a body cavity. SOLUTION: In one embodiment, the surgical access device includes a proximal housing and a distal retractor. At least one stable thread extends around a perimeter of at least one part of the distal retractor.
