[Class 106 (i)] A registering mechanism for a postal franking machine is provided with means whereby a half unit value as well as unit values may be entered into the register wheels. The machine described includes a die 10, Figs. 1 and 2, with a value printing wheel 11 manually adjustable by gearing 13, 14s and a knob 16. A gear 14 associated with the gear 14a meshes with a gear sector 17 fixed to the shaft 18 and having a projection carrying a settable pinion 21. Notches 19 in the sector co-operate with a detent member 23 to hold the sector in set position. The pinion 21 is associated with an actuator gear 27 and a transmission gear 28 loose on the shaft 18. Attached to the face of the actuator gear is a segment gear 29 that co-operates with a segment gear 32 on a drive shaft 33. Geneva locking surfaces 31, 34 on these gears serve to hold them in home position. The actuator wheel 27 has two teeth for each unit value and a space 44, Fig. 3, is provided between the teeth of the " 1 and " 2 '' value units for a " 1¢ " value setting. A cycle of operation is initiated by oscillating the drive shaft 33. At the start of a cycle, a pinion 35 is moved into mesh with the transmission gear 28 and during the cycle movement of the pinion 35 is transmitted by a gear 36 to the units wheel 38 of the register. Rotation of the shaft 33 through the segment gears 32, 29 drives the actuator gear 27 and thereby the pinion 21 which acts as a coupling drives the transmission gear 28. The pinion 35 is rocked out of engagement at the end of the forward stroke by means of a cam 41, follower 42, and a rocking lever 45 on which the pinion is supported.</p> |
