A neutral color generation apparatus is provided with a display color moving unit (2) for calculating distances between a plurality of display colors and a dominant color on a screen and causing the plurality of display colors to be closer to the dominant color by influence quantities of the dominant color which are reciprocal to the lengths of the distances and an interpolation formula generation unit (6) for generating linear interpolation formulas among the plurality of display colors which are made closer to the dominant color by the display color moving unit (2) to calculate distances between display colors at midpoints on the linear interpolation formulas and the dominant color and causing the display colors at midpoints on the linear interpolation formulas to be closer to the dominant color by influence quantities of the dominant color which are reciprocal to the lengths of the distances, and a neutral color specifying unit (10) specifies, among neutral colors displayable on a display equipment, a displayable neutral color which is the closest to a display color at a midpoint on a display interpolation formula which is a linear interpolation formula on which the display color at the midpoint thereof is made closer to the dominant color by the interpolation formula generation unit (6).
