<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable core diameter optical fiber which avoids light leakage from a core to a clad even if the core diameter is reduced gradually from one end toward the other. <P>SOLUTION: The variable core diameter optical fiber has such a structure that a refractive index of the core or the clad is varied according as the core diameter is gradually reduced from one end toward the other. Concretely, the diameter of the core surrounded in a radial direction with the clad having a lower refractive index than the core, of the variable core diameter optical fiber is gradually reduced from one end toward the other, and a ratio of the refractive index of the core to that of the clad is increased according as the diameter of the core is reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
