PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protection device capable of restraining the movement of an occupant to a collision side quickly on lateral collisions. SOLUTION: The occupant protection device S1 includes an armrest 10 capable of receiving the arm of the sitting occupant P on its upper surface side and a driving mechanism M1 for holding the armrest 10 arranged at position where the movement of the occupant P on collision to the collision side cannot be inhibited which, when being operated, is capable of moving the armrest 10 to a restraining position ES where the movement of the occupant on collision to the collision side can be inhibited with the armrest 10. A driving source for moving the arm rest 10 of the driving mechanism M1 is constituted of an actuator 19 using a micro-gas generator of which operation is controlled by a control device capable of detecting collision.
