Process for recovering precious metals from catalytic carriers comprising at least the following stages: Stage 1: treatment of the carriers with at least one aqueous composition Stage 2: treatment of the carriers with an acid solution containing at least sulphuric acid but weak in nitric acid Stage 3: treatment of the carriers with an acid solution containing nitric acid and hydrochloric acid.
