PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction building-up method which continuously performs building-up work in bulk while suppressing the excessive protrusion of a building-up member thereby suppressing the deflection of the building-up member. SOLUTION: In the friction building-up method, the outer circumferential face of the building-up member b with an almost columnar shape is gripped by a gripping means 21, and while rotating the gripping means 21 around the axis of the building-up member b, one axial-direction edge of the building-up member b is pressed against the surface of a base material W and the building-up member b is softened by frictional heat, thus, building-up work is performed onto the base material W. The building-up work is performed in such a manner that the dimensions L of the building-up member b protruded from the gripping means 21 are controlled to a prescribed range while intermittently extruding the building-up member b.
