PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain voltage reduction of liquid crystal driving voltage, prevention of heat generation of a signal line driver circuit in accordance with the voltage reduction, and higher frame rate by maintaining or increasing electrical field intensity to be applied to a liquid crystal without increasing holding capacitor in a liquid crystal device of an FFS mode. SOLUTION: An insulating layer with a dielectric constant smaller than that of the liquid crystal is provided between a common electrode and a pixel electrode in which a plurality of slits are provided, and the insulating layer is etched so that the thickness of the insulating layer under the slits of the pixel electrode becomes thinner than that of the insulating layer under the transparent conductive layer of the pixel electrode. Thus, a recessed part is formed on the insulating layer under the slits, the field intensity to be applied to the liquid crystal is increased, and lower voltage driving becomes possible.
