The invention relates to an aircraft landing gear provided with a selective force transmission device including a first element (1; 101; 201) and a second element (2; 102; 202) which is movably mounted on the first element, a friction member (4; 104; 204) being disposed between the first element and the second element in order to exert therebetween a friction force having a maximum value that is dependent on a preload applied by a press member (12; 112; 212). The device includes control means (10, 11, 13; 110; 210) for controlling the variation in the preload applied by the press member on the friction member, which means are arranged so that, if necessary, they can substantially release the preload applied by the press member so that it is substantially equal to zero.
