PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver that does not require processes, prior to an automatic channel selection operation, and that can carry out a proper automatic channel selection operation in response to the time of the altitude change of ionosphere which changes with the seasons. SOLUTION: A broadcast receiving apparatus has a date and time calculating part consisting of a microcomputer 114 and a crystal 119 for clock for calculating current time and current date; and a sunset time data table memory 120 that stores information in which each date and each sunset time of the date correspond with each other. The microcomputer 114 refers to the sunset time data stored in the sunset time data table memory 120, by using information of the current time and date calculated by the date and time calculating part; determines whether or not the current time is before sunset or after sunset; and then changes a predetermined value of receiving sensitivity, depending on the determined result.
