Communicating data between transaction engines and transaction clients in different local area networks over a dark fibre optical link for reduced latency

A system communicates data in a networked environment via a transaction engine connected to a first local network, a transaction client connected to a second local network, and an optical data link connecting the first local network to the second local network. The optical data link comprises optical fibre which is dark fibre and the transaction client is configured to transmit transaction data to the transaction engine which is configured to carry out a transaction based on the transaction data. The use of dark fibre (dedicated fibre optic links not shared with other subscribers) reduces signal latency.
