An active material support in a polar plate for a lead storage battery is provided to show improved battery performance by superior electrolyte-retention and hygroscopicity and to improve the workability and productivity by increased mechanical properties, as well as to prolong the life of battery. The active material support(5) in a polar plate(1,2) for a lead storage battery(3) is formed of a fabric which is woven with warps of polyester multi-filaments which are formed of polyester ultra-fine yarn of 0.001-0.2 deniers or false twist yarns thereof, and wefts of conjugated false twist yarns in which polyester multi-filaments formed of polyester ultra-fine yarn of 0.001-0.2 denier and polyester multi-filaments having a boiling water shrinkage of 10-50% are interlaced each other. A hydrophilic resin is impregnated into the fabric. The fabric preferably has a porosity of 80-98%. |
