Method for operating a brake device of a motor vehicle approaching a stop

The method involves monitoring the brake pressure in a wheel brake of an axis. A stop braking function is provided for a service brake function which is activated by a driver. The wheel brakes are tensed during activation of the stop braking function. A motor vehicle is provided with the service brake and a parking brake. An independent claim is also included for a brake device with a service brake unit.
