PURPOSE: An overspead prevention device for a bicycle is provided to prevent accidents due to overspeed by restricting the speed with a minimum number of parts. CONSTITUTION: An overspead prevention device for a bicycle comprises a brake drum, a pair of brake shoes(34), and a break case(40). The brake drum is fixed to one or both of a front wheel installed in a frame and a hub formed in the center of a rear wheel. The brake shoes are located separate from the inner surface of a receiving space(32) of the brake drum and rotated with the brake drum, wherein one end of each brake shoe is installed inside the receiving space while the other is connected to an elastic member(38). The break case is fixed to the frame in the position opposite to the brake drum and has a coupling space(42) in which the brake drum is inserted. When the centrifugal force of the brake shoes are greater than the elastic force of the elastic member, the other ends of the brake shoes are rotated away form each other to contact an inner side of the brake case, thereby reducing the rotational speed of the front and rear wheels.
