<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for burning capable of securing spalling resistance required as the tool for burning while improving burning efficiency by thinning of the tool for burning and of preventing peeling of a surface layer. <P>SOLUTION: In the tool for burning including the surface layer provided on the surface of a base material, the base material constituted of sintered particles having 5 μm or less of an average particle diameter includes 93 wt.% or more of cordierite, and the surface layer constituted of aggregate particles having 200 μm or less of an average particle diameter includes oxide of Si element and at least one type of oxides of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, on the interface between the base material and the surface layer and on the grain boundary between the aggregate particles constituting the surface layer.
