<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer which has a high refractive index and is excellent in thermal stability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The polymer comprises a repeating unit represented by general formula in the figure, wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>each represent a heteroaryl group; R<SP>3</SP>represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group; R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>each represent a bivalent linking group or a single bond; X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>, and X<SP>3</SP>represent an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, or N-R<SP>6</SP>; and R<SP>6</SP>represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group.
