A known fault current protection module (20) can be linked to a line circuit breaker (18). A sum current transformer (34) detects the occurrence of a fault current and causes an actuation of a mechanical triggering device (40), which causes an opening of the separating contacts (28, 28') via a corresponding mechanical triggering device (72, 72') of the line circuit breaker (18). This structure is now expanded by a functionality for protecting a circuit from arcing. Means for detecting whether arcing occurs are integrated in the fault current protection module (20). In the module (20), the mechanical triggering device (40) of the module (20) is actuated at least indirectly by a control mechanism (58).
