656,106. Shaft couplings; securing articles on shafts. FAWICK, T. L. Oct. 6, 1948, No. 26045. [Class 80(ii)] An annular member 12, Fig. 1, is secured on a shaft 10 by means of a conical split wedge 13 which is drawn into engagement between the surface of the shaft and an internal conical surface in the member 12 by screws 17 passing loosely through the wedge 13 into threaded holes 16 in a flange 15 in the member 12. A key 19 may be arranged between the shaft and the wedge. The wedge may be withdrawn by removing the screws 17 and inserting them in threaded holes 20 in the wedge to push against the flange 15. As shown, the arrangement is duplicated for coupling two shafts 10, 11, the member 12 serving merely as a coupling member or also as a belt pulley &c. In the modified form shown in Fig. 3 for securing a pulley, gear &c. 23 to a shaft, the latter has a collar 22 with a conical or cylindrical rim engaging a complementary surface in the pulley 23, with the interposition of a key 28, and the screws 17 extended loosely through the flange 15 into threaded holes in the collar 23. For withdrawing the wedge 13, the screws are threaded into holes 29 in the wedge, and, after removal of the wedge. the pulley &c. may be withdrawn from the collar 22 by threading the screws in holes 30 in the flange 15. |
