PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high precision cutting of a workpiece with a simple structure. SOLUTION: A contact between a tool 1 and the workpiece 60 is detected with high precision by detecting an electric load change when the tool 1 and the workpiece 60 are brought into contact with each other by applying ultrasonic vibration to a rotary shaft B of a spindle device A and the tool 1, or to the workpiece 60. The contact between the tool 1 and the workpiece 60 is determined with high precision and also displayed by detecting an electric load when the tool 1 and the workpiece 60 are brought into contact with each other. A contact determination signal for determining the contact between the tool 1 and the workpiece 60 is also obtained, and the signal is sent to a control device 101 of a machine tool 100. In synchronization with an NC machining program of the machine tool 100, the processing from the detection of the contact between the tool 1 and the workpiece 60 to the stop of a Z-axis feed of the machine tool 100 is performed automatically, thus achieving the high precision cutting of the workpiece 60.
