PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ALKYLPHENOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an alkylphenol by reacting a phenolic compound with an olefin under neutral conditions in which a catalytic amount of a metal compound exists to monoalkylate the phenolic compound with high position selectivity. SOLUTION: A phenolic compound is reacted with an olefin in the presence of a catalyst composed of a zero-valent or monovalent rhenium compound to introduce one alkyl group to the ortho position or para position of the phenolic hydroxyl group. A zero-valent rhenium complex such as rhenium decacarbonyl is suitably used as the catalyst. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
