<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp which controls a temperature of a coldest point and further improves efficiency without elongating a lamp even when a lamp output is high. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A diameter D1 of a cavity 22 at an end part of a power coupler 30 side is made larger than a diameter D2 at other part. Thereby, spacial volume of a lamp sealing part 24 is reduced as compared with a conventional one, light emission volume is suppressed and at the same time, heat generation can be suppressed.
