PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption at face detection by inhibiting unnecessary face detection in an image pickup device. SOLUTION: A determination unit 83 determines whether an image pickup condition of an image pickup device satisfies a prior condition for effectively using a result of detection by a detection means 82 which detects images representing faces from among images taken through an image pickup lens of the image pickup device. A control means 86, when the image pickup condition of the image pickup device 1 is determined by the determination to satisfy the prior condition, causes the detection means 82 to perform detection, and, when the image pickup condition of the image pickup device is determined not to satisfy the prior condition, causes the detection means 82 not to perform detection.
