The device has a base body (2) detachably attached on a tubular or rod-like object (1), and a temperature sensor (5) attached at the base body. The base body is designed like a clamp and is opened. The base body exhibits a cross section that partly corresponds to an outer contour of the object. The base body consists of a section of an extruded profile. A flat contact is provided between the object and the temperature sensor. Two sensor recorders are provided on the base body with different diameters. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining temperature of a tubular or rod-like object.
