The invention relates to solid formulations of astaxanthin derivatives in the form of a solid suspension or a solid solution of the astaxanthin derivative in a diluent that is suitable for foodstuffs, said diluent having a melting point of at least 40 °C, preferably at least 50 °C and in particular at least 55 °C and being selected from fatty acids, fatty acid esters, fatty alcohols and waxes, or mixtures thereof, with a melting point of at least 40 °C, preferably at least 50 °C and in particular at least 55 °C and the astaxanthin derivative consisting of at least 70 % by weight, preferably at least 80 % by weight, in particular at least 90 % by weight and especially 96 % by weight of a compound of formula (I). The astaxanthin derivatives are compounds of the following formula (I), in which R represents a group of formula (III), where # represents the link to the carbonyl group, A represents -CH2CH2- or -CH=CH- and Rx represents C1-C4 alkyl, and are astaxanthin derivatives, at least 70 % by weight of which consists of compounds of formula (I). |
