PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out suitable treatment to nozzles or to correctly grasp a state of nozzles in comparison with the case where treatment to nozzles is carried out or a state of nozzles is estimated while the type of a fluid ejected from the nozzles remains unknown. SOLUTION: At the time of inspecting the nozzles, in a state that a voltage is impressed between a printing head 24 and an ink receiving region 52 separated from each other, a level VL of an output signal waveform between the printing head 24 and the ink receiving region 52 when the printing head 24 is operated to eject the fluid from the nozzle 23 is detected by a voltage detecting circuit 54. A type of the fluid corresponding to the detected level VL is read out from a flash ROM which stores a corresponding relationship table that relates the range of the level VL of the output signal waveform determined dependently on the conductivity of the ink or cleaning liquid with the type of the fluid (ink or cleaning liquid), whereby the type of the fluid ejected from the nozzle 23 is recognized.
