PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reading apparatus which includes an illumination light source and an ultraviolet ray source and can be reduce in size while avoiding imaging under a regular reflection condition when a document is deformed. SOLUTION: The document reading apparatus 1 includes: a placing face 5 to dispose thereon a page 9 to be read of a passport 7; a camera 13 for imaging the page 9 to be read; an illumination light source 15 to radiate illumination light which is reflected on the page 9 to be read; and an ultraviolet ray source 41 to radiate an ultraviolet ray which excites a fluorescent material on the page 9 to be read. The illumination light source 15 radiates illumination light across a first edge 73 which is perpendicular to a binding portion 71 of the page 9 to be read at a position corresponding to the first edge 73. The ultraviolet ray source 41 is disposed to radiate the ultraviolet ray across a second edge 75 which is parallel with the binding portion 71 at a position corresponding to the second edge 75.
