<p>Plant extract of the genus Brassicafor the treatment and/or prophylaxis of hyperglycemic diseases, is claimed. ACTIVITY : Anabolic; Antidiabetic; Anorectic. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Sodium-dependent glucose co-transporter-1 (SGLT-1) inhibitor. The SGLT-1 inhibitory effect of the extract (prepared by mincing the leaves (600 g) of Brassica oleracea covar. acephala var. sabellica, and adjusting the pH to 5 using ascorbic acid). The enzymatic degradation was carried out using cellulase (0.025 ml) and pectinase (0.025 ml) at 37[deg] C, where the incubation time was 4 hours. Subsequently the undigested plant parts were removed with a sieve and then freeze-dried. The freeze-dried powder (75 g) was dissolved in ethanol was tested in Chinese Hamster ovary plasma membrane preparation. The results showed that the extract inhibited SGLT-1 to 58% (at a substrate concentration of 0.25 mM of alpha -methyl-D-glucose).</p> |
