<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for production of hydrogen which shows excellent modification activity and excellent durability even when hydrocarbons having a long carbon chain or those having a long carbon chain and containing oxygen, e.g. fats and oils of vegetables, are used as a hydrogen source, and a method of producing hydrogen using the catalyst which enables efficient production of hydrogen even when hydrocarbons having a long carbon chain or those having a carbon chain and containing oxygen, e.g. fats and oils of vegetables, are used as a hydrogen source. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for production of hydrogen supports an active metal in a porous support, and the porous support contains zirconium and has a bimodal structure having pores of a pore diameter of 2-10 nm and pores of a pore diameter of 20-200 nm.
