<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing output from a toner adhesive amount sensor of a polarized light separating system for detecting the toner adhesive amount of a toner patch drawn on an image carrier in order to adjust an image forming condition and accurately grasping the toner adhesive amount even to the patch whose toner adhesive amount is large regardless of the difference of the color of the patch, and to provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing the processing method. <P>SOLUTION: Normalization processing that P-S output from the toner adhesive amount sensor 9 is converted into the output value of a normalization sensor corresponding to the toner adhesive amount by a normalization processing part 90 is performed. In the case of performing the normalization processing, the minimum level of output from the sensor adopted to perform the normalization processing is switched according to the value of spectral reflectance to the wavelength of emitted light from the toner patch detected by the sensor.
