The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a granulated material from a mixture of old polyester and fresh polyester which meets the demands for food packaging, whereby the old polyester is melted, diol is added to the melt of the old polyester, the melt of the old polyester is mixed with the melt of the fresh polyester from a high-viscosity melting reactor and the melted mass mixture is polycondensated in the high-viscosity melting reactor. The polyester melt is then granulated in an underwater granulator and the obtained granulated material is treated with a cleansing air stream in an apparatus of removing aldehydes.
