PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory based mobile storage medium for providing high-quality uncompressed audio and an audio playback system using the storage medium are provided to store high-quality uncompressed music data in a portable external semiconductor storage medium. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor memory based mobile storage medium comprises a contact part(11) and a data storage area(12). The contact part is connected to an external device to allow data communication between the external device and the internal data storage area. The data storage area has a data storage space which is allocated with memory address and includes a file system structure and one or more audio data. The file system structure is recorded in a specified area and comprises a volume structure for defining a physical medium as a usable space and a file structure for hierarchically defining the arrangement of files and directory. The location of specific data is found through the volume structure and the file structure.
