PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate confirming a butt connection state of a built-in optical fiber with an inserted optical fiber. SOLUTION: An optical connector 1 is configured by integrating a ferrule 3 with a connection mechanism 4. The connection mechanism 4 has a base 6 forming a positioning groove 5 and covers 7, 8 facing the base. The covers 7, 8 are openable by a transparent opening and closing member 11. At least either one of the base 6 and the cover 7 for opening and closing connections is formed of an amber Ultem (R) 2400 (natural). In assembling the optical connector, test light is introduced into the built-in optical fiber 2 from a ferrule connection end surface, thereby observing a leakage light leaking outside the optical connector from a butt connection neighborhood through the opening and closing member 11. In the optical connector in which the base 6 or the cover 7 is formed of resin, the leakage light quantity that leaks outside is significantly increased in comparison with the case when they are black.
