<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection method and an inspection device, comprising simply discriminating the tow unusualness at the upstream side of a crimper in a staple fiber production step which tow unusualness is produced in a drawing step, and capable of automatically inspecting with high probability and efficiently, even a fiber causing no color change in a cutting step and hard in inspection of deformation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: There are provided a device and a method for detecting unusual fiber of staple which comprise detecting the unusual tow with a displacement sensor and an acceleration sensor, attached at the upstream side of a crimper, detecting tow speed with a speed sensor attached at the downstream side of the crimper, and spraying a quick-drying ink on the surface of the tow, wherein the ink coated on the tow is detected at the upstream side of the cutting step and depreciation disposition of the cut tow is performed by automatically switching a dumper.
