A method and client for packet transmission based on the virtual private network tunnel are provided by the embodiments of the present invention, the method includes the following steps: the resource information is received by the virtual private network (VPN) clients through the VPN tunnel from the VPN gateway; the packets are captured, and the packet information is obtained from the captured packets; the packet information is matched to the resource information; the packets, of which the packet information is matched to the resource information, are intercepted from the captured packets, and the packets, of which the packet information is matched to the resource information, are transmitted to the VPN gateway through the VPN tunnel. The present invention is used to solve the problem of performing the packet interception and transmission of the VPN clients without the virtual network cards.
