PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain superior particulate matter oxidation efficiency even at low temperatures while suppressing a consumption amount of active oxygen in an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine.
SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine includes a filter for capturing particulate matter, an active oxygen decomposition catalyst for decomposing active oxygen and generating an oxygen radical, an active oxygen supply device for supplying active oxygen to the active oxygen decomposition catalyst when oxidizing the particulate matter using the oxygen radical, and an oxidizing portion control means that controls a portion in a filter where the particulate matter is oxidized by adjusting the flow rate of gas flowing from the active oxygen decomposition catalyst to the filter. When the gas flow rate is comparatively high, particulate matter accumulated on a portion far in distance from the active oxygen decomposition catalyst is oxidized. When the gas flow rate is comparatively low, particulate matter accumulated on a portion close in distance from the active oxygen decomposition catalyst is oxidized.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
